Protect Your Investment! Dental Instrument Care Lambert Dental manufactures instruments in both carbon and stainless steel. Carbon steel is most desirable for scaling. A heat treat process is used to harden instruments and carbon is an important element in the steel. (Stainless steel also contains carbon to make it "hardenable".) Carbon steel instruments hold an edge longer than stainless steel. However, extra care must be taken to prevent corrosion!! Dry-heat and chemiclave sterilization seem to be the best choices for preventing deterioration or corrosion problems. If you use a steam auto-clave, carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions (especially concerning rust inhibitors and venting). Rusting and corrosion are not an instrument defect. We highly recommend using a good non-ionic, non corrosive ultrasonic solution (such as Health Sonics Corp. multi-purpose ultrasonic solution) prior to sterilization. Never leave untreated instruments in a wet condition! ALWAYS follow your sterilization equipment and solutions instructions, especially proper dilution and time the instruments can be left in the solution. COLORED ANODIZED ALUMINUM- Dry-heat sterilization is best to prevent color fading. Many customers have told us they also get great results with chemiclave sterilization. Be sure to check with solution manufacturers to make sure the solution you use won't fade the color or attack the aluminum. Do not use soap, detergent or bleach-They contain caustic ingredients. Note: Health Sonics Corp. ultrasonic solution will not fade color or attack aluminum. CONE SOCKET SCREW IN TIPS- Petroleum jelly or silicon should be applied to threads before tightening with an open end wrench (5/32" for carbon or 1/8" for stainless steel) or pliers. Cone socket tips are very popular due to cost reduction and versatility. When a tip wears out, simply replace the tip instead of the entire instrument. Since you replace the tip yourself, you eliminate the cost and hassle of sending back instruments for retipping! Plus, a wide variety of cone socket tips enable the make up of almost any combination you may want. (Available in carbon or stainless steel.)
